Cierra Johnson is an Indianapolis based visual artist, advocate & culture worker. Her work focuses on cultural preservation through storytelling. She has been interviewing local residents for Storytelling Drawing Sessions since 2022 and spent the last year working to develop Martindale-Brightwood’s quality of life implementation plan. She is a co-founder of the Polklore Micro-Museum dedicated to her neighborhood. She uses mixed media illustration & collage to create narratives that reflect the communities that she is a part of.
She has an extensive background in print production and has done digital art in partnership with the FSSA. In addition, she has taught creative workshops and seminars with Artmix and Arts for Lawrence.
She began showing fine art professionally in 2013. She is a CICF grantee and 2021 On-Ramp Fellowship Recipient. She has shown in the Center for Black Literature & Culture, Harrison Center and Newfields. She is a Christel DeHaan Fellowship for Accessible Arts recipient and was Creative Placemaking Fellow with the Harrison Center. Her work has been acquired by the McKinney School of Law and many private collectors.
