It means the world that you are trusting me to bring your vision to life. I really have endless gratitude for the people that engage with me creatively. Anytime that I’m doing art, I feel at peace. Creativity is truly my most fluent love language.
I wish more people spoke the language of making. I wish they knew the thrill of conquering a blank page with just imagination and a fresh idea. I really love everything about it, the design, the labor, the way the paint smells.
This mural was a collaboration in the truest sense of the word. The original concept shifted as the project progressed. Through a series of creative conversations, Monica and I were able to co-create something that captures the spirit of her mission with this space.
Working this way requires a lot of trust and vulnerability, and I want to say that I don’t take that intimacy for granted. Thank you for giving me room to do transformative work.
Did you know that latex wall paint is water-based? That make it well suited for layering and blending. It reacted very similarly to acrylic when handled at scale.
I really enjoyed the smooth slide of the paint and the rhythmic slap of the brush against the wall. After the wall was primed, it had a perfect balance of grip and slip for vibrant saturation.
I enjoy the labor of painting. Its not only about getting my ideas out. It's about the act of painting itself. Being engaged this way is soothing to to me on a somatic level. I was on site about 30 hours to complete this project. We split it into approximately (5) 6 hour sessions over about 2 weeks.
