Polklore is a micro-museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the story of  Martindale-Brightwood. It is also home to the Polk Fellowship, a residency which connects artists and resident entrepreneurs to each other and to the neighborhood.

Polklore is a museum and an event space. It will feature a semi-permanent art assemblage by local artists. A combination of the words “Polk'' to pay homage to the history of the Polk Stables building and “lore” to show respect for the importance of anecdotal and popular bodies of knowledge in cultural preservation. Polklore showcases and celebrates artifacts and cultural expressions of the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood story.

Stories collected for the Polk project will center African-American and other minority stories that reflect the heritage of our existing community. With the Harrison Center, we are happy to welcome our new neighbors at Polk into the community's existing story, instead of having the view of our neighborhood as a blank slate.
